Welcome to Alena Connect Virtual Internships. In these Terms, “Alena Connect”, “we”, “our”, or “us” refers to Alena Connect Limited, a company based in Nairobi, Kenya.

“You” refers to the student (“Participant”) (self-funded or funded through a university or tertiary institution (“Partner”)) seeking an unpaid, voluntary, and remote work experience (“Internship”) with a company or non-profit organisation from our network of host organisations (“Host Organisation”).

What are these Terms about?

These Terms apply when you:

  • Use our website www.alenaconnect.co.ke (“Website”).

  • Use our internship placement and related services (“Services”).

By using our Website or Services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must stop using our Website and Services immediately.


Part A: Terms for Participants Using Our Services

1. Registration

1.1 Registration Process
By registering, you confirm that:

  • You are at least 18 years old, or if under 18, you have parental/guardian consent.

  • You are legally able to enter into a binding contract.

  • You are authorized to use the payment method provided.

Your registration is only complete when we confirm acceptance via email.


2. Accounts

  • You must provide accurate and up-to-date information.

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login details.

  • We may suspend or cancel accounts that breach these Terms.


3. Services

If accepted, and upon payment of applicable fees, you will gain access to:

  • Internship placement with Host Organisations.

  • Internship support services and mentorship.

  • Training, webinars, and career development resources.

  • An end-of-program evaluation (where applicable).


4. Payments

  • Fees will be listed on our Website.

  • All payments are in USD or KES unless otherwise stated.

  • We may use third-party providers (e.g., Stripe, PayPal, M-Pesa) to process payments.


5. Cancellations and Refunds

  • A USD $50 (or KES equivalent) administrative fee applies for cancellations.

  • Refunds are only available under exceptional circumstances, e.g.:

    • Verified serious illness (with medical documentation).

    • Immediate family bereavement (proof required).

  • No refunds if you cancel after an internship offer is accepted.


6. Code of Conduct

You must:

  • Act professionally during your internship.

  • Communicate promptly with Host Organisations and Alena Connect.

  • Abide by our Student Code of Conduct (available on our Website).

Failure to comply may result in termination of your internship without a refund.


7. Confidentiality

All confidential information, data, or intellectual property shared by Host Organisations remains their property. You may not disclose, copy, or use it outside your internship.


Part B: Website Use

  • You must not use the Website for unlawful or harmful purposes.

  • We may update Website content and policies without notice.

  • Third-party links on the Website are not endorsed by Alena Connect.


Part C: Liability and Legal Terms

  • Alena Connect provides internships as learning experiences, not employment contracts.

  • We are not responsible for direct or indirect damages from your use of our Website or Services.

  • Our maximum liability is limited to the total amount of fees you paid to us.

Welcome to Alena Connect. In these terms, “Alena Connect,” “we,” “our,” or “us” refers to the entity providing virtual internship services under the Alena Connect brand. “You” or the “Host” refers to the company, institution, or non-profit organization agreeing to host students (“Participants”) for virtual internships (“Internships”).

If you are based in Africa or internationally, your agreement is with Alena Connect, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya.

By using our website (https://www.alenaconnect.com) and related services (“Services”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy.


Part A – Terms for Host Organizations

1. Registration & Accounts

  • By registering as a Host, you confirm that you are authorized to enter into a binding agreement with us.

  • Host registration requires: organization details, internship opportunities, supervisor details, and relevant company information.

  • Hosts are responsible for keeping their information accurate and up to date.

  • We may suspend or terminate accounts for non-compliance with these Terms.

2. Services

  • Upon acceptance, Hosts gain access to our network of Participants to meet internship requirements.

  • Alena Connect reserves the right to accept or decline Hosts based on eligibility criteria.

3. Internship Purpose

  • Internships are educational and experiential only. Participants are not employees of the Host.

  • The aim is for Participants to gain real-world experience, skills, and professional development.

4. Internship Parameters

  • Internships are typically 10–30 hours per week, over 1–4 months (120–500 hours total).

  • Hosts must outline internship opportunities with project descriptions, learning outcomes, and supervision plans.

  • Participants are selected through a transparent, non-discriminatory process.

5. Host Responsibilities

  • Provide meaningful projects, a designated supervisor, and regular feedback.

  • Ensure remote work tools/software are accessible to the intern.

  • Maintain professional conduct, comply with data protection rules, and safeguard participant information.

  • Carry adequate liability insurance and comply with applicable employment and safety laws.

6. Alena Connect Responsibilities

  • Provide Participants with mentoring, training, and career development resources.

  • Monitor program quality and step in where Hosts fail to provide a meaningful experience.

  • Support both Hosts and Participants throughout the internship cycle.

7. Fees & Payments

  • Hosts are not required to pay Participants or Alena Connect for hosting.

  • Internships are unpaid and voluntary for Participants.

  • If Hosts choose to reimburse expenses, they must comply with local tax and employment laws.

8. Employment Disclaimer

  • Participation does not guarantee employment.

  • Any future employment relationship is solely at the Host’s discretion.

9. Marketing & Branding

  • Unless otherwise stated in writing, Hosts grant Alena Connect the right to use their name/logo in program marketing materials.

  • Hosts may use the Alena Connect logo for partnership identification.

10. Termination

  • Either party may terminate the agreement with written notice.

  • If an active internship is ongoing, the Participant may complete it if mutually agreed.


Part B – Website Use

  • Hosts must use the Alena Connect website and services lawfully.

  • Prohibited activities include unauthorized data scraping, fraudulent use, misrepresentation, or misuse of Participant data.

  • Information on the website is provided “as is,” and may be updated from time to time.


Part C – Liability & Legal

  • Alena Connect is not liable for damages, losses, or injuries resulting from Participant involvement, except as required by law.

  • Hosts indemnify Alena Connect against claims arising from Host actions, misconduct, or breaches of applicable law.

  • Intellectual property on the website remains the property of Alena Connect or third parties.

  • Our liability to Hosts is limited to the greater of the amount paid to us in the past 6 months (if any) or USD $50.

1. Introduction

  • Alena Connect provides virtual internship placements, mentorship services, and soft skills training.

  • Partner refers to any host company, educator, or institution collaborating with Alena Connect to support interns.

  • These terms are designed to be simple, transparent, and supportive of a smooth partnership.


2. Services & Commitments

  • Alena Connect will:

    • Match interns to projects based on skills, interests, and availability.

    • Provide mentorship, training, and ongoing support where applicable.

    • Ensure professional communication throughout the internship cycle.

  • Partner will:

    • Offer meaningful and well-scoped projects for interns.

    • Provide supervision, feedback, and a safe, inclusive environment.

    • Communicate promptly with Alena Connect on progress or issues.

Both parties agree to act with professionalism, respect, and mutual collaboration.


3. Application & Matching

  • Interns are matched according to project needs, skills, and availability.

  • While Alena Connect strives for the best fit, no specific number of interns is guaranteed unless separately agreed.

  • Partners confirm availability of projects before accepting interns.


4. Confidentiality & Data

  • Both parties agree to protect sensitive or confidential information shared during the partnership.

  • Intern data is collected and processed in line with Alena Connect’s privacy policy.

  • Personal or organizational data will not be shared without consent.


5. Fees & Payments (If Applicable)

  • Standard partnerships are provided at no cost unless otherwise communicated.

  • Where mentorship, training, or premium services incur fees, these will be stated clearly in writing before engagement.

  • No hidden charges will apply.


6. Liability

  • Interns are learners, not employees.

  • Alena Connect is not liable for any direct, indirect, or incidental loss/damages during an internship.

  • Partners remain responsible for their own workplace practices, tools, and environments.


7. Termination

  • Either party may end the partnership with written notice.

  • If an internship placement ends early, Alena Connect may reassign the intern.


8. Governing Law

  • For African partners, these terms are governed by the laws of Kenya.
